Welcome to Laurence Swain Counselling
Hello and thank you for taking the time to view my website
I hope that these pages will help give you an indication of my approach to counselling and psychotherapy. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if there’s anything at all you would like to discuss.
I am a very experienced, registered and accredited Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I have been a therapist for over 13 years, working within the NHS and privately. This has given me the opportunity to undergo a huge variety of additional and extensive training and to work with a wide range of clients struggling with many different issues and concerns.
As an Integrative therapist, I have a broad understanding of the main therapeutic models, I am therefore able to tailor the therapy to suit the individual needs of each client. I receive very good feedback from my clients who say I am very easy to be with and that they feel understood, and appreciate my non-judgemental approach.
Why I believe therapy can be so valuable
Life in general, especially now, in this manic 21st century is becoming more and more overwhelming, stressful and difficult with every passing day.
I have a special interest in working with people suffering with depression / low mood and anxiety / stress / worry. I am also very interested in exploring the impact past and present trauma has on our self esteem and confidence.
When we are in a negative and agitated state, it understandably affects how we think, feel and act. I will help you make sense of why you are feeling the way you are and what you can do to change it.
You may be in crisis and looking for immediate support, or feeling like you’re not coping well with day to day life. You may be feeling overwhelmed by too many problems to deal with, or feeling stuck and unsure how to move forward and make some positive changes to your life. Whether you are experiencing any or most of these feelings, seeing a good therapist that you trust is likely to be one of the best things you ever do for yourself.
“How do I know what I think until I hear what I say” encapsulates why investing a little time in exploring and making sense of what’s going on for you is so important. I offer a confidential, safe and calm space to help you, help yourself.
During our initial meeting you will have the opportunity to talk about your concerns and decide whether I seem the right therapist for you. I offer brief focused / short term and open ended therapy that will be discussed when we meet. There will be no pressure placed on you to make any snap decisions about how you would like to proceed or when you would like the sessions to end.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are usually weekly, initially, but I am happy to be flexible about how frequently you come to see me and on what days and times.
